We have a long history in Southwest Montana.

We’re proud of our roots and we’re committed to providing excellent eye care to the communities where we work and live.

Medical Eye Specialists, which opened in 1963, was the first ophthalmology office in Bozeman. As we’ve grown over the years, we’ve maintained our passion for our practice and our established Montana roots. Each of our ophthalmologists, optometrists and technicians has strong ties to the area. We all love the outdoor lifestyle and close, family-town feel of life here in Bozeman.

Meet Our Doctors

As your local eye care experts, our top priority is your care. That means we’re dedicated to building relationships and spending time with our patients, making sure you get the information you need and ensuring that you’re comfortable with the care you’re being given. We don’t rush through appointments and we don’t overschedule. We spend quality time with each of our patients so we can get to know you, your eyes and your eye care needs.

Medical Eye Specialists is a physician-owned practice. We believe this helps keep us patient-focused, family oriented and proud to be local.

Patricia A. Cosgrove, M.D., M.P.H.

Before medical school, Dr. Cosgrove worked with an ophthalmologist in Kenya and saw the opportunity to make a big difference in the quality of someone’s life with an elegant surgery that resulted in a dramatic improvement in their vision. The experience stuck with her. Today, Dr. Cosgrove loves the daily challenge of providing the best ophthalmic care she can at Medical Eye Specialists, where she works with leading-edge technology and a truly incredible staff who are committed to providing an outstanding experience for every one of their patients.

Starting her day with an enthusiastic and optimistic staff, catching up with long-term patients and having camaraderie with her colleagues are Dr. Cosgrove’s favorite parts of her everyday life at MedEye. Her favorite things about living in Montana are the great opportunities for being outside with family and friends, from skiing and biking to camping and hiking.

Joe Sheehan, M.D., M.S.

Cornea, LASIK & Cataract Surgeon

Dr. Sheehan became interested in studying the eyes by observing the profound impact vision can have on a person’s life, and the ability an ophthalmologist has to improve someone’s quality of life through medical and surgical options. Every spring, Dr. Sheehan spreads this knowledge and takes his life-changing abilities beyond Montana’s borders, participating in service work in Guatemala. He’s involved in a yearly cataract surgery and medical trip serving a rural part of the country where he both performs surgery and teaches eye surgery to Guatemalan ophthalmologists.

Originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, Dr. Sheehan has truly made Montana his home. He loves doing just about anything outdoors, such as hiking, rafting, fishing, skiing and playing ice hockey, and he says the best part of his days are interacting with Montana patients and working alongside his incredible team who make it fun to come to work.

Dr. Watkins’ roots are in Montana. She grew up here, studied here and followed her passion to practice ophthalmology here. Upon returning to Montana after medical school, Dr. Watkins cared for Montana veterans as an ophthalmologist at the VA Clinic, where she also directed the implementation of Technology Based Eye Care Services for rural Montana veterans. Living and working in Bozeman, Dr. Watkins sees how dedicated her community is to the health and well-being of their friends and families; it’s a community that values raising their children in the outdoors, supporting others and caring for the land and wildlife. Along her optometry journey, Dr. Currier has been a Spanish Interpreter at Pacific University Eye Clinics, become a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, worked as an Optometric Physician at Precision Eye Care in Dillion, MT and she’s now a Medical Optometrist here at Medical Eye Specialists.

For Dr. Currier, Montana truly is home. Having grown up in Helena and attended college in Bozeman, Dr. Currier knows her way around the Montana backcountry – hiking, backpacking, cross country skiing, traveling and rock crawling are some of her favorite hobbies.
